Governor Cuomo Directs Flags to Half-Staff on Friday, July 26th

Albany, NY - July 24, 2013 - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Friday, July 26, 2013 in honor of a Fort Drum soldier who died in Landstuhl, Germany on July 22nd, as the result of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident in Andar, Afghanistan.

Army Specialist Anthony R. Maddox was assigned to the 10th Brigade Support Battalion of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, part of the 10th Mountain Division. He was a resident of Port Arthur, Texas.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Specialist Anthony Maddox,” Governor Cuomo said. “Though we are saddened by the death of this young soldier, we are proud of, and grateful for, his service to our country. We all join in mourning his loss.”

Governor Cuomo has directed that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of and in tribute to our state’s service members and those stationed in New York who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
