Police: Patchogue Man Arrested for DWI After Crashing Car with Grandchildren Inside

East Meadow, NY - July 23, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Patchogue man for driving while intoxicated with two children in his vehicle following a motor vehicle crash on Friday, July 20, 2018.  
 
Daniel Mitchell was operating a 2005 Ford Expedition on East Lakewood Street in Patchogue when his vehicle struck the rear of a 2010 Nissan that was stopped at a stop sign on July 20 at 3 p.m. Mitchell’s grandchildren, an 11-year-old male and a 9-year-old male, were in the vehicle. No one was injured.
 
Mitchell, 65, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a felony for having a previous conviction, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without an Interlock Device, two Counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and two Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
 
Mitchell was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today. 
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
