Schumer, Gillibrand Announce Over $500k in Federal Funding for Long Island Federally Qualified Health Center
July 22, 2013 - Westbury, NY - U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $525,000 in Affordable Care Act funding for the Long Island Federally Qualified Health Center (LIFQHC). The funding will help support LIFQHC’s primary care residency program and train residents during the 2013-2014 academic year.
“Ensuring that we have capable physicians at Long Island’s medical centers is essential to providing quality health care in the region,” said Schumer. “This federal funding will help train residents at LIFQHC so that they can continue their life-saving work on Long Island.”
“Federal funding will give Long Island Federally Qualified Health Center the resources they need to help train the next generation of doctors and continue to provide families continue the quality care they need. This investment will bolster LIFQHC’s primary care residency and preserve access to primary care physicians on Long Island,” said Gillibrand.
Health and Human Services (HHS) today announced $12 million in Affordable Care Act funding to support primary care residency programs in 32 Teaching Health Centers across the nation. Funding will help train more than 300 residents during the 2013-2014 academic year, doubling the number of residents training the previous academic year.
