Long Island Native Natalie Portman Tapped to Play Thor

Written by Lon Cohen  |  22. July 2019

Natalie Portman has been a goddess of geekdom since she was a young teen. Well-known to sci-fi fandom as the mother of Luke and Leia Skywalker in Star Wars playing Queen Amidala she went on to be cast in more dramatic roles, including Black Swan where she won an Oscar for her role as a ballerina with a dark side. (Her breakout role was in The Professional.)

Portman was born in Israel but her parents moved to Jericho in the 1990s. She graduated from Syosset High School in 1999.

After being absent in the third outing of Marvel’s Thor franchise, Portman has been handed the mantle - or should we say Mjolnir - with a role in the new next installment of the film announced at ComicCon this weekend. In Thor: Love and Thunder, Portman will become Thor, Goddess of Thunder. Details are unclear to the actual story line but  there is precedent in the comics when her character Jane Foster does just that.
