Update: Motorcyclist Killed in East Islip Crash

Update - 3:30 PM - Christopher Gonzalez, the motorcyclist who was critically injured in a crash last night on Sunrise Highway in East Islip, has died.
 
East Islip, NY - July 21, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating a crash that critically injured a motorcyclist who drove into the back of a car yesterday evening.
 
Christopher Gonzalez and a female passenger were travelling eastbound on Sunrise Highway just west of Exit 46 on a 2012 Yamaha motorcycle when they crashed into a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant that was also travelling eastbound. Gonzalez, 21 of Medford, suffered serious head injuries and was transported by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. The passenger on the motorcycle, Samantha Negron, 21, of Patchogue, was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious physical injuries.
 
The driver of the Mitsubishi, Mary Paniccia, 63, of Shirley and her 13-year-old grandson were not injured in the crash.
 
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with any information on this incident to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555.
