Two in Custody on Multiple Charges After Leading Police on High-Speed Chase in Massapequa, NCPD Says

Massapequa, NY - July 20, 2018 - The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of two individuals for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in Massapequa.
 
According to detectives, Seventh Precinct Officers in conjunction with New York State Police conducted an investigation in the parking lot of the Sunrise Mall located at 1 Sunrise Mall in Massapequa. New York State Police received a LOJAC signal indicating a stolen vehicle was in the vicinity of the mall. While conducting a search, defendant Naquan Reid, 27, of Amityville and defendant Sophia Kwintner, 21, of Deer Park were observed entering a vehicle that fit the description of the LOJAC alarm.  
 
Officers observed the grey Chevrolet Impala commit multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations. The officer initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. The defendant, Naquan Reid, while operating the vehicle did refuse to stop and headed northbound on Carmans Road. The defendant was observed committing more VTL violations and intentionally struck a police vehicle, causing an injury to the officers right hand, finally coming to a stop after colliding with a parked car on Great Neck Road in Amityville. 
 
Both defendants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Defendant Reid was located in a rear yard of a residence on Somerset Road North, Amityville and after resisting arrest was placed into custody at 6:30 p.m. Defendant Kwintner was also located in a rear yard of a residence on Somerset Road North with the assistance of K-9 at 6:36 p.m. and placed into custody.
 
Defendant Reid is charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Five counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Assault and multiple VTL violations. Defendant Kwintner is charged with Five counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Defendant Reid will arraigned when medically fit. Defendant Kwintner will be arraigned on Thursday, July 19.2018 at First District Court, 99 Main Street Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
