Medford Man Charged With Animal Cruelty By Suffolk County SPCA

Medford, NY - July 20, 2018 - Detectives with the Suffolk County SPCA  arrested a Medford man and charged him animal cruelty on Wednesday,  July 18, 2018.
 
Chris Gallagher, 24, was charged with animal cruelty for failure to provide proper sustenance and abandonment of his dog. Gallagher left his dog unattended in a crate and in a residence on Van Buren Street in West Babylon for many days without food or water while Gallagher had fled New York believing there was a warrant for his arrest. When found, the dog was emaciated. 
 
Gallagher was arrested without incident. He was released on station house bail and is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on a later date for arraignment.
 
Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
