Copiague / Lindenhurst, NY - July 19, 2016 - Tanner Park Beach in Copiague and Venetian Shores Beach in Lindenhurst are closed to swimming due to the finding of bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria.

Lake Ronkonkoma Beach, in the Town of Islip, which closed to bathing on Thursday, July 14, 2016, remains closed, and Grantland Beach in Strongs Neck, which closed to bathing on Monday, July 18, 2016, also remains closed.

The following beaches are currently closed.

  • Tanner Park Beach - Copiague
  • Venetian Shores Beach - Lindenhurst
  • Lake Ronkonkoma – Town of Islip
  • Grantland Beach – Strongs Neck

The closure issued for Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore, which closed on Monday, July 18, has been lifted, as results of recent samples collected show the water quality to be within acceptable levels.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
