Machete-Wielding Ronkonkoma Man in Police Custody After Robbing Gas Station, Officials Report

Nesconset, NY - July 17, 2017 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for robbing a gas station in Nesconset, New York, last week.
 
Joseph Gallo entered BP, a gas station located at 294 Smithtown Blvd., on July 10 at 9:28 p.m., displayed a machete and demanded money from an employee. The employee complied and the suspect fled with cash eastbound on Smithtown Boulevard.
 
Fourth Squad detectives obtained video and distributed a description of the suspect. A Fourth Precinct officer recognized Gallo at the corner of Smithtown Boulevard and Metzner Road in Ronkonkoma, New York, on July 14 at approximately 5:50 p.m. and arrested him.
 
Fourth Squad detectives charged Gallo, 50, of Ronkonkoma, New York, with Robbery 1st Degree. He was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 16.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
