Long Island Couple's Burglary Spree Comes to an End

Since February a boyfriend and girlfriend went on a burglarizing spree in Suffolk County. The couple was arrested on Friday by Suffolk Detectives. The Fifth Squad Detectives were assisted by the Property Recovery Section who helped them piece together the burglary pattern in Sayville, Medford, Patchogue, and East Patchogue. This led them to find and finally apprehend the two.

On July 12, Richard Neumann, 29, of Medford, was arrested along with his girlfriend Jessica King, 23, of Shirley. Neumann was charged with 12 counts of Burglary in the Second Degree. His girlfriend, King, was charged with seven counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Their spree went from February 4 of this year to July 12. All the homes they broke in to were unoccupied at the time of their entry.

Jewelry and electronics were recovered from the couple at the time of their arrest. Police also believe the two stole money from the houses of previous burglaries. What tipped off police was the report of a green car leaving the scene of every home invasion. This led Suffolk County Detectives to trace the car back to King.

The investigation is ongoing and Neumann and King are scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip on July 14.

This string of burglaries on Long Island comes almost a year after another couple went on a spree of their own. Last year it was 22-year-old Michael Willis and 23-year-old Samantha Knab of Center Moriches. They were arrested after being caught trying to break in to a house in Coram while the owner was still inside.

Police arrested them a short time later and found they were also responsible for breaking in to five other houses in Selden and Port Jefferson Station. They were both charged with Burglary and Attempted Burglary.
