Apple urges you that if your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac is stolen, you should first contact your local law enforcement agency to report it. The best thing you can do after calling the police is using the iCloud’s Find My iPhone service.

Using Find My iPhone you can see the location of your missing phone on a map, display a message on the screen for the thief to view, make it play a sound at full volume even if it’s on mute, lock and track the location using lost mode, and erase all information you have on it.

You can see if anything was purchased or registered with your stolen device by signing in to My Support Profile on the Apple website.
