A 35-year-old Highland Falls, New York woman perished as she was attempting to rescue her dog amid massive flooding that was the result of severe storms that pounded the Hudson Valley region over the weekend, according to Governor Kathy Hochul at a press conference on Monday.

The victim's body was later discovered at the bottom of a ravine after she had been forcibly taken away by raging floodwaters, Hochul said.

"She came out, seeing her house was taking on too much water," she said. "She was with her fog and her fiancé literally saw her swept away. Terror, right here."

Highland Falls, the area in Orange County hit hardest by the storm, recorded 8.12 inches of rainfall within a 24-hour period of time.
