Philosopher Peter Singer’s Views on Euthanasia, Eugenics & Animal Rights on Tom Needham’s The Sounds of Film
Stony Brook, NY - July 10, 2018 - Moral philosopher Peter Singer is Tom Needham’s exclusive guest this Thursday at 6 PM on WUSB’s ‘The Sounds of Film.’ He is going to be discussing his books ‘Ethics in the Real World: 82 Brief Essays on Things That Matter’ and ‘Marx: A Very Short Introduction.’ Also on the program are ‘A Quiet Place’ composer Marco Beltrami, and author/PR Guru Angelo Ellerbee.
Peter Singer is a Laureate Professor at the University of Melbourne and Ira W. deCamp Professor of Bioethics in the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University. He is the co-founder of The Life You Can Save, a nonprofit devoted to improving the lives of people living in extreme poverty. Through the years, he has appeared in numerous documentaries and TV series including ‘Animal People: The Humane Movement in America,’ ‘Lake of Fire,’ ‘Monkeys, Rats and Me: Animal Testing,’ ‘Examined Life,’ and ‘A Delicate Balance: The Truth.’ He is probably most well-known for his book ‘Animal Liberation,’ in which he argues in favor of vegetarianism. His recent books include ‘Ethics in the Real World: 82 Brief Essays on Things That Matter,’ in which Singer applies his way of thinking to issues like climate change, abortion and euthanasia, and ‘Marx: A Very Short Introduction,’ in which he identifies the central themes in Marx’s thought.

Long Island’s Marco Beltrami is one of Hollywood’s most successful film music composers. He is internationally known for his Academy Award nominated scores for the films ‘3:10 to Yuma,’ and ‘The Hurt Locker.’ Through the years, he became recognized for his horror scores including the movies ‘Mimic,’ ‘The Faculty,’ ‘Resident Evil,’ and ‘Hellboy.’ He became a close collaborator of director Wes Craven, and has scored all four of the ‘Scream’ films. His latest score is for director John Krasinki’s smash hit ‘A Quiet Place,’ which is out on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD from Paramount Home Media Distribution. The film is an original thriller that follows a family who must navigate their lives in silence to avoid mysterious creatures that hunt by sound.

Angelo Ellerbee is the founder and CEO of DoubleXXposure Media Relations. Through the years, he has worked with some of the top names in the industry including Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Michael Jackson and Dionne Warwick. He was the executive producer of the film ‘Never Die Alone’ and the associate producer of the film ‘Exit Wounds.’ He is the author of two books, ‘Ask Angelo: An Inside Look at the Entertainment Industry from a PR Guru’ and ‘The Sense of Success.’
