Deer Park Man in Police Custody for Stalking and Aggravated Harassment, Officials Say

Suffolk County, NY - July 10, 2018 - Suffolk County Police on July 6, 2018 arrested a 45-year-old Deer Park man for stalking and making unwanted communication with two Babylon women.
 
Beginning in the summer of 2013 and continuing through July 1, 2018, Joseph Mathews engaged in hundreds of inappropriate conversations, mostly of a sexual nature, with a 46-year-old professional business woman. Additionally, between April 26, 2018 and May 1, 2018, Mathews engaged in both sexual and threatening conversations with a 38-year-old professional business woman. Both victims contacted the Suffolk County Police Department, and after a thorough investigation by the First Precinct Crime Section, officers arrested Mathews at his residence on July 6 at approximately 10:30 p.m. 
 
Mathews, 45, of Deer Park, was charged with two counts of Stalking 3rd Degree, two counts of Stalking 4th Degree and 2 counts of Aggravated Harassment 2nd Degree. He was held overnight at the First Precinct and was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 7. 
 
Police are asking anyone who might have been a victim of Joseph Mathews to contact First Precinct Crime Section officers at (631) 854-8126.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
