School Buses Recalled for Steering Issue and Propane Fuel Leak

Some popular school buses used to transport students are being recalled.

Blue Bird has recalled more than 2,500 All American school buses, including some 400 transit buses to fix a problem that makes steering more difficult.

The company has also recalled a smaller number of school buses that may be prone to a propane fuel leak, according to paperwork filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The steering problem relates to some buses made between 2011 and last May where a steering shaft clamp comes into contact with a rubber close-out boot on the floor.

The possible fuel leak problem, which could lead to a fire relates to 388 Vision school buses made in 2012 and 2013.

The report to the NHTSA indicates the fuel leak problem can happen in “severe environments” when an aluminum fuel line fitting corrodes where it meets a brass supply valve housing on the fuel take.

No injuries or accidents have been reported relating to these problem areas, according to the school bus maker.
