Police: College Point Woman Allegedly Driving Drunk with Child Strikes, Injures Pedestrian and Toddler

Elmont, NY - July 5, 2018 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a College Point woman for Driving While Intoxicated-Leandra’s Law that occurred on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at 10:08 p.m. in Elmont.
 
According to police, 911 received a call for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Seville St. Upon arrival, police observed a 31 year-old female on the ground next to a 2008 Blue BMW holding her 2 year-old son. Both of the victims sustained injuries and were transported to local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
 
The operator of the vehicle, Kiran Choudhry, 28, was observed to have bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet. Defendant Choudhry was placed under arrest without incident. The defendant had a 5 year-old old male in the back seat of the car at the time of the accident, who was released to a relative.
 
The defendant is being charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated-Leandra’s Law, Driving While Intoxicated, two (2) counts of Assault 2nd Degree, two (2) counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle 3rd Degree and various VTL infractions. She will be arraigned on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
