Long Island, NY - July 5, 2018 - Get Tickets Now for the Fair Media Council's Summer Boot Camp on July 13: The Future of Communication. You won't just hear information, you'll experience it: Featuring expert speakers, our Summer Boot Camp provides exclusive insight into how communications and communicating is changing business and life as we know it, from how we stay healthy to 3D menus to help us decide what to order in restaurants.

Summer Boot Camp is Friday, July 13 from 8 am to 12 noon and the dress code is casual (shorts and flip flops).

The event begins with hot buffet breakfast (yes, bacon!) and networking in South Nassau Community Hospital's state-of-the-art Conference Center in Oceanside (take the LIRR to Oceanside Station).

Our experts provide exclusive insight into the latest communication trends, including immersive storytelling, virtual reality and data visualization. You'll see what's possible, and how easy it is to get your organization started using these technologies for stronger storytelling, branding and marketing.

Audience engagement tips, learning to think visually and getting started with mapping visualizations is all part of the morning, along with virtual reality coffee breaks (no worries, the coffee's real) that promote wellness via VR meditation.

Speakers include:

  • Frye Fellow and international keynote speaker Emory Craig, co-founder of Digital Bodies, a global consulting group assisting corporate, nonprofit and educational organizations in the implementation and use of immersive and wearable technologies. He is also Director of eLearning at The College of New Rochelle. Emory will explain “How Immersive Experiences will Transform Business, Education, and Social Life.”
  • Josh Kleinbaum, vice president of digital news for NBC’s Owned Television Stations, overseeing news content on digital platforms for NBC’s 12 owned stations. He’s been an editor on the NBC OTS national digital team for nine years. Before that, he was a print reporter at newspapers in the Los Angeles area, and the first digital editor at the Los Angeles Daily News. He'll talk audience engagement, and how news is adapting to what the consumer wants using new technologies.
  • DJ Smith, co-founder & chief creative officer of The Glimpse Group and founder of New York Virtual Reality MeetUp (second largest in the world, with nearly 6,000 members), is bringing toys to play with -- he'll show you the future as well as what’s trending in virtual reality, including 3D menus to help you decide what to order at a restaurant, and a VR meditation, to promote wellness and help hospital patients speed recoveries.
  • Gregory Boyd, director of the data and analytics practice of global consulting firm Protiviti will show how to breathe life into information. His experience reaches across multiple industries including insurance, finance, retail, distribution, manufacturing, and payment processing. This presentation gives the nuts and bolts of using business intelligence to make an impact.
  • Suffolk County Community College journalism instructor Carl Corry, a former newsday.com editor and executive producer of News 12 Interactive, will walk you through two projects he developed using Google Fusion Tables. The good news? It doesn’t take years of training to learn how to develop mapping data visualizations. Effective projects can be simple. The better news? The tools he’ll show you are free.
