Homeless Man in Custody After Attempting to Break into Baldwin Day Care Center, Cops Say

The First Squad reports the Arrest of a homeless man for Burglary (Attempt) that occurred in Baldwin.
 
According to detectives, the defendant, Kevin Johnson, 40, screamed obscenities at children and teachers outside of Learn and Play Day Care Center located at 2163 Grand Ave. When teachers brought the children inside the day care center for their safety, the defendant pulled the door and grabbed an orange construction cone and attempted to smash the front window of the center to gain entry. The subject fled the scene on foot after a teacher called 911. He was apprehended a short time later without incident.
 
Kevin Johnson is charged with Burglary 3rd degree (Attempt) and seven (7) counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was arraigned at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
