Holbrook Man Arrested for Boating While Intoxicated Over 4th of July Weekend

Fire Island, NY - July 3, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers arrested a Holbrook man for Boating While Intoxicated on the Great South Bay on Saturday night.

Officer Raymond Cairo was on patrol on Marine Juliet in the Great South Bay, North of Ocean Bay Park, Fire Island last night at 9:40 p.m. when he observed a boat operating without navigation lights heading directly toward the police boat. The crew of the police boat placed its engines into reverse to avoid a collision, activated the emergency lights and stopped the oncoming vessel.

The vessel, a 25-foot Everglades center console boat, was being operated by William Lindemann and there were two adult passengers on board.

Lindemann, 54, of Holbrook, was arrested and charged with Boating While Intoxicated. He is being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning at First District Court in Central Islip.

The vessel was towed to Marine Bureau Headquarters at Timber Point in Great River.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
