SCPD, US Coast Guard & Islip Town Harbor Police to Target Unsafe Conditions for Boaters and Residents Off Long Island and Fire Island

Islip, NY - July 3rd, 2014 - Islip Town Councilman John Cochrane  will be joined by Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau authorities, Islip Town Harbor Police, and United States Coast Guard officers at a news conference to announce renewed efforts to target unsafe conditions for boaters and residents off the coast of Long Island and Fire Island, on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the East Islip Marina.

Also speaking will be Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Officials and the Mother of an 11-year-old girl killed in a boating accident.

July 4th Weekend starts is the busiest period of the year for accidents and boating traffic in the tri-state area. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, 16 percent of boating accidents happen as a result of Boating While Intoxicated, and over 20 percent of all boating fatalities are a result of alcohol-impaired boaters.
