SPCA: Moriches Woman Accused of Kicking & Injuring Service Animal of Disabled US Army Vet
On Monday, June 14, 2025, Suffolk County SPCA detectives charged a Moriches woman with animal cruelty and criminal mischief.
Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA, said that SPCA Detectives charged Brianna Mahoney, 28, of Moriches with Criminal Mischief 3rd, a felony, and Animal Cruelty, a misdemeanor, for kicking and injuring the service animal of a disabled US Army veteran. An additional misdemeanor charge of Harming a Service Animal 2nd is being considered.
The incident occurred on May 29, 2025 at the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in Patchogue, following a verbal altercation between Mahoney and another patron of the establishment.
The U.S. Registered Service Animal, a Pit/Dachshund mixed breed canine, was subsequently treated for its injuries at an area veterinarian facility and released.
Mahoney was booked by SPCA Detectives at the Suffolk County Police Department’s Fifth Precinct. She was held in lieu of bail for arraignment in First District Court at Central Islip on June 14, 2025.
