Off-Duty Suffolk County Police Sergeant Helps Rescue Four from Burning Boat

Port Jefferson, NY - July 2, 2018 - An off-duty Suffolk County Police Sergeant helped rescue four passengers from a burning boat in Port Jefferson Harbor on July 1, 2018.
 
Sergeant Michael Guerrisi, who was off-duty and onboard his personal boat, observed a 33-foot Sea Ray Sundancer on fire in Port Jefferson Harbor at approximately 12:50 p.m. Four passengers had abandoned the burning boat and were in the water. Sergeant Guerrisi helped pull the victims from the water and aboard his personal boat.
 
The owner of the boat that caught fire, Charles Schwartz, 59, of Greenwich, Connecticut, and Ainsley Lothrop, 30, of Norwalk, Connecticut were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for evaluation. David Lamontagne, 47, of Norwalk, Connecticut and Robert Corbi, 31, of Greenwich, Connecticut, were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Arson Squad detectives.
