19 Summonses Issued, One Person Arrested During Pedestrian Safety Checkpoint in Lindenhurst

Lindenhurst, NY - July 1, 2016 - Suffolk County Police have issued 19 summonses and arrested one driver during a pedestrian safety checkpoint in Lindenhurst yesterday.

Highway Patrol Bureau officers conducted a pedestrian safety checkpoint, in part due to complaints from residents, at the intersection of North Wellwood Avenue and Fremont Street on June 30 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

During the checkpoint, a total of 19 summonses were issued to 14 motorists. Six of the summonses were issued to motorists who failed to stop at a crosswalk and six were for drivers using cell phones. Jesse Stabile, 36, of Lindenhurst, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Other summonses issued were for a seatbelt violation, an unregistered vehicle and uninspected vehicles.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
