Deer Park, NY - July 1st, 2013 -  National Grid, a partner of the national organization, Girls Inc., has teamed up with Girls Inc. of Long Island (GILI) to expand their Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) programming to include a STEM summer camp.

Their $37,500 grant will not only support the delivery of comprehensive, hands-on STEM programming throughout the academic year to select school districts, but will also support Girls Inc. Summer Initiatives to include STEM programming.

This summer, some of those programs will include field trips, a summer camp partnership with Brookhaven National Labs, and workshops delivered to community based summer camps for young girls.

"National Grid is excited to work with Girls Inc. in the effort to encourage young girls to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math careers," said Mauri Myers-Solages, Corporate Citizenship Manager of New York, National Grid. "We are committed to supporting initiatives that will inspire the next generation of engineers and talent needed to help support the nation's energy delivery system.”

GILI is most pleased to welcome Kathy Wisnewski, Community Customer Manager for National Grid, to our Board of Directors.   "Kathy brings a wealth of energy and innovative ideas for Girls Inc. as we continue to grow on Long Island," said Neela Lockel, Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Long Island.  Kathy has almost 25 years working in National Grid in both gas and electric. Her experience and knowledge in the utility industry makes her a valuable asset to the Girls Inc. team.

Most recently, Wisnewski has been working with community leaders and businesses in the Long Beach and Island Park area acting as a lead for National Grid's Hurricane Sandy Economic Development Relief Program, which provided grants to businesses to help them rebuild. National Grid has successfully been able to assist businesses to open in time for the summer season.
