Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a woman who was pulled from the water off of Fire Island Sunday afternoon.

Marine Bureau officers responded to Seaview Marina on Sunday at approximately 3:40 p.m. after a 911 caller reported finding a body floating in the water near shore. The caller went into the water on a paddleboard and kept the woman floating until officers arrived on scene.

Marine Bureau officers were able to pull the woman, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, into the boat on the paddleboard and transported her to Marine Bureau headquarters at Timber Point where she was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The woman is believed to have drowned in rough water due to a storm.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
