The Fifth Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Lakeview man for an incident that occurred in Lakeview.
According to Detectives, officers were responding to call for a male walking near Langdon Boulevard and Lafayette Avenue with a black handgun. As officers arrived they approached a subject matching the description and a brief foot pursuit ensued.
While running from the officers, the subject was observed throwing a black handgun onto the front lawn of a residence on Langdon Boulevard. The defendant, Deryck Rhodes, 49, was taken into custody without further incident. The handgun was recovered by assisting officers. During the foot pursuit one officer suffered a minor injury and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Deryck Rhodes has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Assault 2nd Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. He was arraigned at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
