UPDATE: Huntington Beach & Lake Ronkonkoma Beach Reopens

Update - July 2, 2015 - As of July 2nd, Lake Ronkonkoma Beach has been reopened to the public.

Update - June 30, 2015 - The beach closure for Head of the Bay Club Beach in Huntington Bay has been lifted, as recent water samples meet New York State standards.

Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in the Town of Islip remains closed to bathing due to continuation of the presence of bacteria at levels in excess of acceptable criteria.

Suffolk County, NY - June 29, 2015 - Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in the Town of Islip and Head of the Bay Club Beach in Huntington Bay are closed to bathing due to the finding of bacteria at levels in excess of acceptable criteria.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
