Coram, NY - June 27, 2017 - A jury in Riverhead deliberated for approximately one hour this afternoon before convicting a 77 year old Coram man of rape, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child charges, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

Felix Mora sexually abused and raped a teenage female from the summer of 2014 until September of last year when the police investigation began after the victim told a friend about her encounters with the defendant. Mora was arrested on September 27, 2016.

“Mora manipulated this young woman and used intimidation to control her during the years of abuse she endured,” DA Spota said. “The forensic analysis by the Suffolk County Crime Lab established a match between Mora’s DNA and evidence recovered from the victim’s underwear.”

Mora’s trial started June 13 in Riverhead. He was found guilty this afternoon of all six charges in the indictment; Rape in the second and third degree, Criminal Sexual Act in the second and third degree, Sexual Abuse in the second degree and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Judge Barbara Kahn ordered Mora remanded to the county jail to await his sentencing on July 28.

District Attorney Spota said a sentencing recommendation of maximum upstate prison time will be made totaling 18 years behind bars.
