Smithtown, NY - June 27, 2014 - Sally Economou of Smithtown was chosen as the Suffolk County Senior Citizen of the Year and presented with her award at the annual senior celebration luncheon. Ms. Economou has been volunteering with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for 18 years and is very involved with the telephone reassurance program. In addition, she is a hospice volunteer with the Visiting Nurse Service of Suffolk County and had her dog trained as a service dog so they can make weekly visits to various nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. “Ms. Economou has certainly demonstrated a commitment to serving the seniors of Suffolk County and is truly an outstanding member of the community. I applaud her volunteer spirit,” said Suffolk County Legislator Robert Trotta.
