NCPD: Roosevelt Man Attempts to Steal Bicycle, Resists Arrest When Officers Arrive On-Scene

Roosevelt, NY - June 26, 2017 - The First Squad reports the Arrest of a Roosevelt man for a Robbery that occurred on Sunday, June 25, 2017 in Roosevelt.
 
According to Detectives, at 1:36am defendant Westley Witts, 27, while on Nassau Road, stated to the male victim, 53, that he was going to take his bicycle. The victim tried to stop him but the defendant grabbed a pair of vice grips and threatened the victim. He then jabbed the victim in the stomach with the bicycle and a struggle ensued.  
 
When Officers arrived on scene the defendant refused the Officers lawful verbal commands to drop the vice grips; he then began to show aggression toward the Officers. The defendant resisted arrest and a brief struggle ensued, he was placed under arrest at 2:08am.
 
Defendant Westley Witts is charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Monday, June 26, 2017 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
