Fort Salonga Elementary School Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Smithtown, NY - June 26, 2017 - The Fort Salonga Elementary School was built in 1967, and recently marked its 50th anniversary. The occasion was celebrated with students reading their essays about the school and the third grade chorus singing several songs to entertain the guests. 
 
The school’s mission is toinspire life-long student curiosity, creativity and independence. It provides instruction from kindergarten through the third grade. 
 
Legislator Rob Trotta thanked the school administration for inviting him and suggested that the children in kindergarten remember this day and think about returning to the school in 50 years when it will celebrate its 100th anniversary. He then led the students in singing “Happy Birthday.” “This is one of the best schools on Long Island and my children also went here,” said Legislator Trotta.
 
Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta presented a proclamation recognizing the school’s milestone to Stephanie Montecalvo, principal, and Dr. Timothy Eagen, Kings Park School District Superintendent.
 
Legislator Robert Trotta represents the 13th Legislative District, which includes Smithtown, Fort Salonga, Kings Park, San Remo, Nissequogue, Head of the Harbor, and St. James, as well as most of East Northport and parts of Northport and Commack.
 
Legislator Trotta serves on the Legislature’s Economic Development, Environment, Planning & Agriculture, Health,Public Works, Transportation & Energy, and Ways & Means Committees.
