Cops: Westbury Man Arrested for Leandra’s Law Violation After DWI with Daughters in Vehicle

East Meadow, NY - June 26, 2017 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Westbury man for a Leandra’s Law violation in East Meadow at 2:39am on Sunday, June 25, 2017.
 
According to Police, defendant Pedro Huerta Garcia, 45, was observed operating a 2002 Ford Explorer traveling westbound on Hempstead Turnpike. The defendant was unable to maintain the proper posted speed limit, could not maintain the lane and crossed over three lanes of traffic.
 
The Officer conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop and observed the defendant to have indications of being intoxicated. The defendant had three passengers in the vehicle, two of which were his two daughters, age 8 and 15 years. 
 
The children were released to their mother and the vehicle was impounded at the scene.
 
Defendant Pedro Huerta Garcia is charged with (2) counts each of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child and DWI.  He is also charged with multiple traffic violations. He was arraigned on Sunday, June 25, 2017 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
