Not So Fast! Drag Racing at Calverton Criticized by Local Group

A local civic group has brought up environmental and noise pollution concerns about a recently approved series of drag racing events at Enterprise Park at Calverton (EPCAL).

 

According to a report in Newsday, EPCAL Watch, a Riverhead watchdog group is asking the DEC to weigh in on the drag races to determine their impact of the local environment.

A Riverhead watchdog group has asked the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to investigate whether two scheduled drag racing events at the Enterprise Park at Calverton will harm the surrounding environment.

 

Newsday reported that the letter asks the DEC to "move swiftly" and "require any and all necessary permits, and any mitigation that will be needed to minimize environmental harm that will inevitably result from the events as proposed." The DEC also told the paper that it is working with the town on the issue.
