After a drag race was approved at Calverton Enterprise Park in June, racing enthusiasts wanted more. A contentious debate developed over environmental and noise pollution concerns but an additional series of drag racing events were approved for the site starting in late summer by the Riverhead Town.

 

The Town board approved the plan to host drag racing at Calverton Enterprise Park on four weekends starting in August. According to an article on Riverheadlocal, the proposal was approved by a vote of 4-0, with one member abstaining.

 

The events, called “Race Track, Not Street” will run according to the below schedule posted on the official Facebook page of the event:

• Saturday 8/21 - “Hot Track” 11am to 4pm. Gates open  at 8am. Opening Day Ceremonies at 10:45am
• Sunday 8/22 - “Hot Track” 11am to 4pm. Gates open  at 8am
• Saturday 8/28 - “Hot Track” 4pm to 10:45pm.Gates open at 1pm
• Sunday 8/29 - “Hot Track” 11am to 4pm. Gates open  at 8am
• Saturday  9/4 - “Hot Track” 4pm to 10:45pm.Gates open at 1pm. Special Event: Beat the Heat!  Wanna race against the cops?
• Sunday 9/5 - “Hot Track” 11am to 4pm. Gates open  at 8am
• Saturday 9/11 - Saturday 8/28 - “Hot Track” 4pm to 10:45pm.Gates open at 1pm
• Sunday 9/12 - “Hot Track” 11am to 4pm. Gates open  at 8am
• There will also be another event called The Scrambul Runway Challenge on the weekend of September 25-26

Rain Dates:

• Saturday 9/18 - “Hot Track” 11am to 4pm. Gates open  at 8am
• Sunday 9/19 – “Hot Track” 11am to 4pm. Gates open  at 8am
