Farmingdale Middle School Students Participate in Math-a-Thon for St. Jude’s Children’s Research
Farmingdale, NY - June 23, 2017 - The Farmingdale School District recently kicked off its 16th Annual Math-a-Thon for the students at Howitt Middle School. The District hosts this event every year as an innovative, exciting way to inspire students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.
During the event, students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade compete to answer math questions and raise money from sponsors. This year’s top-earning class was Mrs. McCarthy's 6th grade class; sixth grade students Jenna Reggio and Morgan Harris each raised more than $200 and Kevin McKeane raised $325.
This year, Howitt Middle School students sent over $10,300 to help the cover the cost of the patients at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Students who donated $5 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital received vouchers from Applebees, Panera Bread and Chipotle as a thank you. In total, the students raised $2,200 in just one day. Over the past 16 years over $169,700 has been fundraised through Farmingdale School District’s Math-A-Thon program.
