Authorities Report Man Killed in Hauppauge Motor Vehicle Crash

Hauppauge, NY - June 20, 2018 - Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a man in Hauppauge on Tuesday, June 19.
 
A 2006 Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway when it struck a 2007 Mini Cooper east of exit 55 at approximately 6:10 p.m. The Chevrolet veered off the road and into a wooded area where it struck several trees.
 
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 56 year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
 
The driver of the Mini Cooper, Darren Cheng, 20, of College Point, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
