Vehicle Overturns and Hits 62-Year-Old Pedestrian in Freeport

Freeport, NY - June 20, 2016 - The Homicide Squad is investigating a serious accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 6:36 P.M. in Freeport.

According to detectives, while traveling westbound on Merrick Road, a 26 year old male operating a 2001 Dodge Caravan attempted to make a left turn onto Buffalo Avenue and was struck by a 2013 Toyota Prius traveling eastbound, operated by a 67 year old female.  The collision caused the Dodge Caravan to overturn and strike a pedestrian on the southeast corner. 

The 62 year old male pedestrian suffered severe head trauma and was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.  Both operators were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and released.  Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety tests.

This investigation is ongoing.
