SCPD: Man Arrested for DWI Following Hauppauge Head-On Crash with Serious Injury

Suffolk County Police arrested a man for driving while intoxicated following a head-on motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a man in Hauppauge.
 
Johnny Mendez was driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza northbound on Lincoln Boulevard, just north of Route 454, when the vehicle veered into the southbound lane and struck a 2001 Jeep Cherokee driven by Francis Squillace.
 
Squillace, 61, of Hicksville, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. Mendez and a 17-year-old male passenger in the Impreza were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor injuries. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
 
Mendez, 18, of Bayshore was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
