NCPD: Intoxicated Central Islip Woman Attacked Two Police Officers in Merrick
Merrick, NY - June 19, 2017 - The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a Central Islip woman for an Assault that occurred on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 8:41 pm in Merrick.
According to detectives, patrol officers responded to a 911 call for a disturbance at Gateway Hotel, 1780 Sunrise Highway. Upon police arrival, Cindy Pereira, 25, appeared to be intoxicated and was uncooperative. During the investigation Pereira attacked one of the responding officers and struck her in the head with a closed fist. A struggle ensued and the defendant was placed under arrest.
While officers placed Pereira into a police car, she continued to resist and kicked both responding officers in the face and neck causing injuries.
The officers were transported to an area hospital where they were treated and released.
Defendant Pereira is charged with two (2) counts of Assault 2nd degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree and Resisting Arrest. She will be arraigned when practical.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
