Written by Long Island News & PR  |  23. June 2015

Lindenhurst, NY - June 19, 2015 - In response to an increase in need, Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre (D-Babylon) has announced she is holding a food drive on Wednesday, June 24. The food drive will benefit Island Harvest, one of the largest hunger relief organizations on Long Island.

“Island Harvest is providing our community with critical supplies that help make all the difference,” Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre said. “Even the smallest donation can go a long way in helping someone in need.”

The food drive will be on Wednesday, June 24. Members of the community are asked to drop off food items at Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre’s district office, 640 West Montauk Highway, Lindenhurst, between 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you are unable to fit this time into your schedule, please contact Kristi Reynolds in the district office at (631) 957-2087.

Island Harvest is in need of the following food items:

  • Any non-perishable foods such as canned soup, vegetables and fruit, hot and cold cereal, rice and pasta, peanut butter and jelly, pasta sauce and condiments.

Island Harvest is Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization. Their volunteers and staff deliver millions of pounds of goods, surplus food – much of which might otherwise go to waste – to a network of 570 Long Island-based food pantries, soup kitchens and other non-profit organization that offer feeding services for those in need. By doing this, they provide a vital supply of food to counter the sharply rising problem of hunger here on Long Island.
