Coram, NY - June 17, 2016 - Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker hosted a Coram Plaza Revitalization Task Force meeting on Wednesday, June 15th at the Coram Firehouse. Legislator Anker has been working diligently with multiple government agencies and community organizations to revitalize the Coram Plaza. Issues of concern include homeless encampments, panhandling, overgrown vegetation, drug dealing, and the need to increase lighting and security.

At the task force meeting public officials, community advocates, local businesses, and not-for-profit organizations discussed ways to revitalize and secure the Coram Plaza. The task force meeting included Legislators Sarah Anker and Rob Calarco, as well as representatives from Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Office, New York State Department of Transportation, Suffolk County Department of Social Services, Suffolk County Police Department, Hope House Ministries, Service for the Underserved, LI Coalition for the Homeless, New Beginnings, Home Depot, and the Coram Plaza property management companies.

“It is important to work together as a community to address these multifaceted issues in Coram. I will continue working with different government agencies and organizations to revitalize the Coram Plaza and to increase security in the area,” said Legislator Anker. “I feel confident we can make a positive change to the area by working together to address each challenging component. The Coram Plaza is a vital economic driver to the Coram community and the last thing we need is a vacant plaza. I have reached out to a number of organizations to provide resources to the homeless population. I have also reached out to a number of businesses and agencies who are eager to beautify and landscape the surrounding area.”
