Pilot Killed in Single-Engine Plane Crash in East Patchogue

Update - 4:30 PM - Hanan Shoshany, 53, of Jamaica, New York, has been identified as the pilot who crashed into a backyard in East Patchogue this morning.

Original Release - East Patchogue, NY - June 17, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a single-engine plane crash that killed a pilot in East Patchogue this morning.
 
A private single-engine plane, which left Republic Airport in East Farmingdale at 8:50 a.m., crashed into a backyard at 51 Camille Lane at approximately 9:05 a.m.
 
The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. No one on the ground was injured. The identity of the pilot is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
 
Members of several fire departments including Hagerman, North Patchogue, Brookhaven, Bellport and Medford responded to the scene.
 
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will continue the investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
