NCPD: Hempstead Man Charged with Using Stolen Credit Cards After Stealing Wallet

NCPD reports that Edwin Gaines, 38, of Hempstead has been arrested for a Grand Larceny that occurred in Hempstead on Friday, May 19, 2017

Hempstead, NY - June 16, 2017 - As a result of a Nassau County Crime Stoppers Tip the defendant Edwin Gaines, 38, of Hempstead has been arrested by Third Squad detectives in the vicinity of Madison Avenue for a Grand Larceny that occurred in Hempstead on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10:00 am.
 
According to detectives, Gaines entered into a commercial truck parked in the lot on Cooper Street and removed a wallet that contained an unknown amount of US currency and several credit cards and then walked away. At 6:59 pm Gaines entered into the Gulf Gas Station located at 434 Clinton Street and fraudulently used the credit cards.
 
Gaines is being charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, identity Theft 3rd Degree, and Consuming Alcohol in Public. He was arraigned on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
