Man Crashes After Suffering Apparent Medical Emergency on Sunrise Highway

Bohemia, NY - June 14, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that occurred on westbound Sunrise Highway in Bohemia, after a man suffered an apparent medical emergency tonight.

Joseph Campanelli crashed into the right side guard rail on westbound Sunrise Highway, just west of Lincoln Avenue, after suffering an apparent medical emergency at approximately 5:10 p.m. A witness observed they saw Campanelli slumped over the wheel just before the crash.

Highway Patrol Officer Lorin Cirincione arrived at the scene and pulled Campanelli out of the car and initiated CPR. Highway Patrol Officer Mark Kipybida responded soon after and also administered CPR.

Campanelli, 46, of Bay Shore, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore by Community Ambulance Company in critical condition.  The investigation is continuing.
