Legislator Anker Announces Programs to Assist to Senior Citizens

Mt. Sinai, NY, June 2013 – Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker announces that the Suffolk County Office of the Aging will offer advocacy programs to assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies throughout the months of July, August and September.

Advocates will be available on the following dates at the specified locations:

  • Tuesday, July 23rd from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Longwood Public Library
  • Wednesday, July 31st from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm at the Rose Caracappa Senior Citizen Center
  • Wednesday, August 14th from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm at the Rose Caracappa Senior Citizen Center
  • Tuesday, September 17th from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Long Public Library
  • Wednesday, September 18th from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center

The Suffolk County Office for the Aging is the designated Area Agency on Aging under the Older Americans Act. For over 30 years, Suffolk County Office for the Aging has administered federal, state and county programs for persons 60 years of age and older.

Specific goals for the Office are to develop a comprehensive service system designed to assist persons 60 years of age and older in maintaining maximum independence and dignity, to remove barriers to economic and personal independence, and to provide a continuum of care for the vulnerable elderly. Most importantly, Suffolk County Office for the Aging acts as advocate on behalf of all Suffolk County senior citizens.
