Medical Associates of NY- Bringing Quality Preventative Care to Long Island Since 2003

Written by Chris Boyle  |  12. June 2020

When it comes to taking care of yourself, a proactive approach is always best. But whether your visit to the doctor is for the sake of preventative measures or to treat an ongoing malady, the highly-trained and qualified professionals at Medical Associates of New York always have your best interests at heart.

With six locations across Long Island – Bayside, Patchogue, Hauppauge, Mount Sinai, Selden, and Huntington, with two additional locations due to open soon in Massapequa and Levittown – Medical Associates of NY is a primary care and multispecialty group that offers a plethora of important benefits, from general checkups to a number of specialized services, according to CEO and President Dr. Rajesh Raina.

“By the end of this year, we’ll be seeing around 9,000 to 10,000 patients every month, and they’re all primary care patients,” he said. “We also have a cardiologist, a pulmonologist, we do stress tests, echocardiograms, we check the circulation in the legs, everything. We’re also planning on getting a CT PET scan later this year, which is the latest way to detect blockages in the heart.”

Dr. Raina noted that the focus of Medical Associates of NY – which first opened in January of 2003 – is in preventative care, especially when it comes to patients that already have a number of high-risk health factors to deal with.

“We take pride in avoiding hospitalization and emergency room visits by following the patients very closely,” he said. “We are very proud of how closely we follow our patients with a high risk of mortality, including diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, allergies, COPD, sleep apnea, emphysema, and more. We even do smoking counseling, sleep studies and we have a gastroenterologist and even a podiatrist to deal with our diabetic patients, as they can develop foot problems.”

Each location of the practice is also nationally certified to utilize electronic medical records systems in order to optimize the care of their patients. In addition, Medical Associates of NY also has their own centralized lab, so they have complete control over the speed, efficiency, and accuracy of their testing results.

Dr. Raina said that Medical Associates of NY is always looking to expand the services they offer to their patients in order to give them comprehensive health care; additions to the practice in the near future will include pain management, psychiatry, and other services addressing a wide array of physical and mental needs.

Overall, Dr. Raina notes that he was inspired to start Medical Associates of NY after coming to Long Island and noticing a very real dearth in terms of quality medical care that was available to the residents of Nassau and Suffolk counties. In particular, he said that recruiting a psychiatrist is of the utmost importance due to the great stress that many people are experiencing these days.

“Especially after COVID-19, we’ve found that so many of our patients are very anxious, very stressed. So what we’d like to do is to bring in a psychiatrist, and hopefully a psychologist down the road as well,” he said. “We’re basically trying to improve the quality of healthcare on Long Island – especially in Suffolk – because to me it has not been the best. We need to recruit good physicians, because when many of them come out of residency, they want to stick around the city. They think of Long Island as being the middle of nowhere, and that’s a perception that we need to change.”

As for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Raina was quick to point out that Medical Associates of NY was open throughout the entire span of the outbreak, serving patients not only from Long Island, but from all over the state as well via telemedicine.

“We helped everyone we could, even when their own physicians were not available,” he said. “People were calling us from throughout the state, and we were more than happy to help them during the crisis of the pandemic.”

And finally, Medical Associates of NY offers quality, affordable care that is accessible to anyone with any insurance policy; this ease of access allows Long Island residents to truly get the best possible health care and with it, Dr. Raina said, comes peace of mind.

“Since we’re not owned by a hospital, our reimbursement is less than 50 percent of what the same procedures are in hospital-owned practices,” he said. “Plus, we are in-network with all insurances, so no one is billed out of network. We’re here to serve the health of the community with the many services that we provide.”
