Suffolk Marine Bureau Police Rescue Four from Capsized Boat in Islip's Great South Bay

Islip, NY - June 12, 2017 - Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers rescued four people after their sailboat capsized in the Great South Bay in Islip on Sunday, June 11, 2017.
 
Teresa Pinnola and her three cousins Shilo Immerman, Jarad Immerman and Kyle Sheets were on board a 14-foot Sunfish sailboat in the Great South Bay, approximately ¼ mile south of Bayberry Point, when a part failed causing the boom to strike Shilo Immerman. The boat capsized, throwing all four into the water.
 
Witnesses on shore called 911 and Marine Bureau officers and Islip Fire Department responded. Marine Bureau Officers Kevin Comiskey and Gregory Stroh on board Marine Juliet pulled Pinnola and Jarad Immerman from the water, while firefighters on board the fire department vessel pulled alongside the sailboat, rescued Sheets, and took the sailboat in tow. Shilo Immerman was pulled out of the water by good Samaritans on a passing vessel.
 
Pinnola, 20, of Islip, and her cousins Shilo Immerman,17, Jarad Immerman, 22, and Kyle Sheets, 22, all of Arizona, were transported to the Bayberry Beach and Tennis Club in Islip. Jarad and Shilo Immerman were transported by Islip Exchange Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
