East Hills, NY - June 11, 2018 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Florida man for Driving While Intoxicated- Leandra’s Law that occurred on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 1:31 am in East Hills.
 
According to police, a Third Precinct Officer on routine patrol observed a 2018 Dodge Caravan traveling southbound on Glen Cove Road failing to signal for a lane change and then failed to maintain the lane. The officer conducted a vehicle traffic stop. The driver was observed to have glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Defendant Mahendra Ro Samaroo, 39, of Gotha, Florida was placed under arrest. Seated in the rear were the defendant’s 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son. They were released to the mother uninjured.
 
Defendant Samaroo is being charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Driving Intoxicated – Leandra’s Law, 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated and several Vehicle Traffic Laws. He was arraigned on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
