Legislator Anker Visits Cornell Farm for Military Kids Day

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  11. June 2013

Yaphank, NY, June 2013 – Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker visited Cornell Farm in honor of Military Kids Day on Saturday, June 8th. The event was free to all military families, and was a part of a year-long community service project by 4-Hers in Suffolk County, Operation: Military Kids.

Operation Military Kids is a project that connects military families and their children to the resources around them in order to achieve a greater sense of community. The project was started in collaboration with the United States Army in 2005 and seeks to support military children across the country who are impacted by deployment. The event at Cornell Farm in Yaphank included wagon rides, animals, a butterfly house, ice cream, and crafts, and was a great community experience for military families.

“Having been raised in a military family, I can appreciate what families go through when a parent is active in the military. It’s difficult for children who are affected by their parents’ deployment,” said Legislator Anker. “It’s vital that we support local military families with the resources available in the community. Operation Military Kids is a great program that seeks to accomplish that goal.”
