Hauppauge, NY - June 9, 2017 - At the General Legislature Meeting on Tuesday, June 6th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker honored Ariana Gutierrez, a student at Longwood Middle School, for winning the 2017 “Be Pool Smart” poster contest. Each year, the county hosts the “Be Pool Smart” poster contest to raise awareness about the importance of pool safety and to help prevent incidences of drowning. Students are asked to participate by creating a poster with relevant pool safety tips. The winning poster is displayed on the front cover of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services’ pool safety brochure. Ariana received a proclamation from Legislator Anker, alongside her parents and her art teacher, Mr. Christopher Hampson.

“I would like to offer my sincerest congratulations to Ariana. There were hundreds of entries from students across Suffolk County and Ariana’s poster stood out as both artistic and informative,” said Legislator Anker. “I thank all of the students who submitted entries. The poster will help raise awareness about pool safety throughout Suffolk County.”
